Wole Oni recently released his first official single. The song received a lot of buzz online and this didn’t come as a surprise. Apart from being very good in what he does, Mr Oni has a personality and candor that easily endears him to people who come in contact with him.
He is humble, accommodating, warm-hearted and Godly. These are attribute we find lacking in many people who find fame and let it get into their heads.
Mr Oni had a chat with our Chief Admin and we got to know a lot more about him and his projects. Do go ahead and read this post so that you will get to know more about him too….
“Mr Wole Oni’s humility and impressive artistry is something that beguiles us.

After a brief chat between Mr Wole Oni and Philip Asuquoof Gospel City Naija, … Mr Oni told Philip that the ‘Cover Me Lord’ single is his first official single and the following conversation ensued;
It really is a surprise to know that this is your first official single.. You mean you never attempted to record and release any track before now?
Yes. It is the very first song I am putting out that is from my own project. I have always worked on other people’s songs before now and it’s something I am committed to. I have always loved investing in people and their music ministry/career because that's my core gifting and focus. My core focus is to make stars….

That’s really great. From focusing on making stars, you have actually shone as one. So, what inspired you to finally get into the recording booth for this first song?
Well, the recording booth is like kitchen for me. You know, food is needful not only when one is hungry but sometimes when you need to pamper your taste to satisfy something you can't expressly explain.
“Cover Me Lord” is a meditational kind of song with a blend of jazz and soul. It had 8 languages in it namely - English, yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Ibibio, Chinese, french and Spanish. The song is my own way of saying a prayer.
So the song was done to indulge your musical taste buds and as a prayer of yours?
Yes. It's a simple piece of music. It had several instruments seasoning it well for music taste buds.
It had Flute, nylon, steel and electric guitar, various percussions, tines and Asian bells which all glided through the music. It also had a 150 voice choir.
Woah. Like seriously, that’s great. With this song out, do we expect a full album from Wole Oni anytime soon?

Most definitely. I'm currently working on my full album which will come out soon. This single took me 7months to make. I love to take my time when working on a worthwhile project. I recorded this album in four continents - Africa, Europe, Asia and America. I flew to those areas to record each of those international languages on songs in the album.
That’s impressive.
Thank you sir.
So, what has the response been so far on the song, sir? We've seen a lot of activities online around it.
It's been ‘wow’. Dr Panam Percy Paul said he has listened to it more than 5 times

You really put in a lot of work into it. That's good to know...
Some say it's like sweet fine wine and when they start listening they just can't stop. We had over 4000 downloads within 12 hours of its release. God be praised.

Now, considering the time you put into a song, what would you say to artistes who rush to put out songs/albums even below the standard quality?
Hmmm. Honestly, if I should quantify this production to what I regularly do with artists, no artiste in Nigeria will be able to afford it. This is because it cost me a lot of money even though I'm the producer.
The point is that anyone who wants to produce a song or an album should not always think little of the outcome by rushing in and out of the studio. Such individual should take his or her time to work on the song, listen to it over and over again…He or she should also invite professional ears to contribute to it and be sure it will last and stand the test of time before putting it out.

Cool. Finally, what do you think is the way forward for gospel music and gospel music ministers in Nigeria and Africa?
I think gospel music needs investors. Good and quality music require funding for aspects like good videos, promotion and all. Interventions from our pastors will go a long way to salvage the situation
